Vulcaponic Plantscape at Charter House
Creating a rainforest feel with living plants to a dated office entrance.
Our client, Orbit Developments, asked us to maximize the opportunity of a refurbishment of one of their flagship offices in Altrincham, so we were delighted to present a state-of-the-art Vulcaponic hydro lush living plant scheme.
The challenges of the location which was below a spiral staircase with support columns were considered, and creating individual pods of waterproof membrane in the space created the perfect environment for the completed scheme.
Our team first removed all the existing faux plants and polystyrene base topped with stones, thoroughly cleaned the space, then set about fixing the membrane to the existing sides. Due to the location of the columns and very low height levels, we created the scheme with multiple pods to house the new planting.
Vulcaponic is a type of volcanic stone that functions like a sponge, efficiently transmitting moisture through capillary action from the bottom reservoir of water up through the stones, reaching 5-10 cm to the plant root ball. The plant roots rapidly adapt to locate the moisture within the stones, effectively self-watering by absorbing the optimal moisture each plant needs.
The completed scheme has thrived spectacularly over the past nine months since its installation, as can be seen.
We're thrilled that the scheme has been a huge hit with all stakeholders.
